FRIEZE LA 2020!!
A4D had another successful year at Frieze LA! Taking part in the Street Fair section of the fair A4D had an amazing array of artist made political wares.
Huge thanks to the many artists who contributed to our booth. We had a 5 print folio (edition of 10) made especially for A4D with contributions from Tala Madani and Nathaniel Mellors, Lisa Anne Auerbach, Liz Glynn, Amanda Ross Ho, Nick Angelo and Luke Harnden. Andrea Fraser has generously donated a copy of her book "2016 - In Museums, Money and Politics" for a raffle.

There were t-shirts by Yasmine Nasser Diaz, Ry Rocklen, James Herman, Sarana Mehra, Kysa Johnson and Election Reform. There were custom artist made A4D mugs, zines by Akina Cox, Bronwyn Mauldin, and Meghann McCroary, “Make America Again” hats by Lisa Anne Auerbach, original work by Scott Benzel, Galia Linn, Julia Schwartz, Erin Morrison, Aubrey Ingmar Manson, The Binder of Women, and Kysa Johnson. We had keychains, drawings, postcards and so much more! Goods were for sale from as little as $5 as we fundraise for our “Get Out the Vote” efforts leading up to the 2020 elections. Many of those wares are now available on our online Democracy Shop!

In 2018 we saw firsthand how even small engagements can bring big results. Artists 4 Democracy’s work registering student voters and canvassing in swing districts helped to increase voter participation where races were won by very tiny margins.  Partly due to our efforts, the student voter turnout at CalArts increased by 43.8% compared to the prior midterm election.

In 2020, we are forging partnerships with art schools and departments in swing districts throughout the country with the goal of inspiring students to use their voices in the upcoming election.  We’ve found huge enthusiasm on campus for using creative skills to energize political participation and to turn out the vote. Democracy needs all of us more then ever!
